Nits de Tanit – Music : Kroke

Kroke

The third concert of the Nits de Tanit. Music of the World. On this occasion, headlined by the Polish group Kroke.
Kroke is an instrumental group of the genre of world music. The name of the band in Yiddish means Krakow.
The group was founded in 1992 by three friends and graduates of the Krakow Academy of Music. At the beginning, they were associated with klezmer music with strong Balkan influences. Currently their music is inspired by a varied range of ethnic music and sounds of the East, combined with jazz to create their own distinctive style.
They caught the attention of Stephen Spielberg when he saw them playing in Krakow during the shooting of Schindler’s list. He not only played the clarinet with the trio, but also invited them to perform in Jerusalem. The band also captivated Peter Gabriel who asked them to participate in the Womad Festival, one of the most important in the world, organized by his own record label. Years later, when the co-founder of Genesis was invited to the Life Festival of Oswiecim, he specifically asked that Kroke play in that concert and ended up sharing the stage during the last song.
In recent years, apart from their own projects, Kroke has also recorded albums with artists such as Nigel Kennedy, Edyta Geppert and Maja Sikorowska.
