Ses Païsses Talayotic Settlement

Ses Païsses is one of the largest and best preserved talayotic settlements in Mallorca. The first archeological excavations were carried out by the Italian archeologist Giovanni Lilliu in the fifties, who had the goal of relating this type of Majorcan constructions with the ones from Sardinia. The settlement dates back around 850 BC being its main Talayot the first structure built. When the Romas arrived to the island, this village initiated its decline (around 123 BC). At the entrance there’s a monolith dedicated to the Majorcan poet Miquel Costa i Llobera, who set his poem “La deixa del Geni Grec” (1900) in Ses Païsses.
