Robert Graves’ House

The poet and writer Robert Graves (1895-1985) lived in Deià from 1929 until his death. He is buried in the beautiful cemetery next to the church. His house was acquired by the Foundation Robert Graves and has been refurnished and adapted for visitors since 2006.

Graves and his former partner Laura Riding built this house in 1932, and called it “Ca N’Alluny”, meaning distant home. It’s located only five minutes walk from the picturesque village of Deià and the mountains rise right behind the beautiful building, looking towards the Mediterranean sea. The garden is an essential part of the visit, as  the design dates back to 1932. The furniture and decorations are the original ones, an aspect that will make visitors feel as if Graves had left briefly to take a dip in the Cala or gone into town to get his mail.
