Es Pujols-Varadors ( Boat Sheds)

The “varadors” or “arriadors” (slipway huts) are guide ramps variable in length, made of juniper wood consist of poles placed in two parallel rows within a meter of horizontal separation between them, supported by stakes digged in vertical into the ground, which also hold other crossbars with concave edges to guide the keel of boats during their journey to and from the sea.

At the side of the land, almost all avaradors are just a small house where boats “sleep” and other equipment needed to go to sea is kept, to remain save from the sun, rain or humidity. To build the houses, fishermen still take advantage of the small pieces of wood or wooden planks that comes from the same sea, which makes no two are ever alike, although all follow the same construction system.

At Es Pujols and in Es Caló is where you´ll find slipway huts in the heart of the village.
