Es Caló- Varadors ( Boat Sheds)

To have an idea of the importance that the people from Formentera gives to their “Casetes Varadero” or slipway huts, imagine:
Year 2002, the Coastal Demarcation of the Balearic Islands in application of the Coastal Law wanted to tear down them, they were claiming that they were illegally occupying a public area. The reaction against them by the whole population of the island who wanted to preserve them, the strength and caliber of their protests was such that in 2002 the Island Council of Ibiza and Formentera at the request of the people of Formentera, gave them all the category of BIC (cultural interest) .

In Es Caló de Sant Agustí you can find what is still nowadays a port in use by local fishermen. If you wake up early in the morning you can even find them coming back from the sea with their precious and tasty load. Do not miss the chance to take a dip into this crystal clear waters.
