Betlem’s Hermitage

This beautiful hermitage was built on the ruins of the old Arab’s farmhouse of Binialgorfa. Between 1302 and 1344, this estate was under the dominion of the Dehesa de Ferrutx, an important hunting ground of Mallorca’s kings. In 1409, Joan Morei bought the building and initiated activities of oil production and beekeeping. Over the time, the farm was abandoned, until 1805 when it was occupied by five hermits, who only found the remains of an ancient defense tower and the oil mill. They quickly reconstructed the building and turned the old tower into a chapel. The hermitage cannot be visited inside, but seeing it from outside and pleasantly walking around its natural area is a great visit.
