Almallutx – Prehistoric Settlement

The area around Almallutx Valley has numerous archaeological sites that include burial caves, Talayotic monuments, pottery remains and flint fragments. Researchers also believe that this area was an important Islamic rural settlement during the Christian re-conquer of the island. Part of the valley is nowadays submerged under the waters of Gorg Blau dam and, for this reason, Amallutx sanctuary is submerged by the waters most part of the time. Still, it’s possible to see one of the columns of the sanctuary right in front of the water. This area worths a visit, as the lake’s surrounding are very pleasant for doing trekking and spending a day outdoors.
