Nits de Tanit – Music : Broukar

broukar - nits de tani

The Broukar group was founded in 2007 in Damascus, Syria. The group consists of seven artists including two dancing dervishes.
Together they try to revive the authentic oriental music with all its colors and nuances, and contribute to the rebirth of the musical heritage of the East.
The city of Damascus has long been one of the centers of the Arab world for cultural and artistic innovation and, especially, in the field of classical Arabic music.
The group plays traditional Arabic music (singing and instrumental music), with secular and religious themes. In fact, the Sufi singing comes from Sufism, an Islamic practice, and is directly associated with the dance of the dervishes. This dance is based mainly on the movements of rotation and of the hand in reference to the name of God.
